Description

Oh my

foreshadowing~

When Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire were announced back in May, I was beyond excited. My favorite facet of the Pokemon universe (III gen games were the best thing to have happened to 8-year-old me) was being revamped and rekindled with kickass new graphics and storyline. The story was already weaving itself in my mind long before I even got the game. I further developed the story as I scrounged up more details about the game and its plot--let's just say it evolved into something I really love and cherish.

I've been sitting around for months worrying about how bad the art quality will be, but I have had enough. The only way I will get to the level I want to be is to experiment with my art, and to embrace challenges I would otherwise completely avoid. Besides, if you find the story as nail-biting as I do, then the art will hopefully not sear your eyes out as much :')

Originally, I had completed a different cover with the protagonist gazing upon Groudon as it emerges from the fiery mists under Sootopolis, but scrapped it for this cover. It's simple and has a lot of hints as to what the tone of the story will be, and give some insight about the protagonist.

Why traditional media? Why not watercolor? I'll be honest, I am an inept moron when it comes to digital art. Something in my brain and hand short-circuits whenever I pick up a tablet and pen, and everything I draw looks like something a toddler would draw. I also love watercolors and hope to find the perfect harmony between mixed media and digital editing. My hugest inspirations are ShadeofShinon and Yamashita-akaDoragon Shinon's beautiful pencil drawings reflect the gritty essence of the protagonist Nessa, and her realistic take on Pokemon always stun me with their beauty. Yamashita's work brings a new feeling of life to the Pokemon and characters. YTWC is depicted as more of an antihero, and is used as a way to communicate deeper problems that bother normal people, such as depression and overcoming anxieties/fears. Their flawless traditional adaptations are what convinced me that there is still hope for traditional artists out there. Though the world is constantly in awe of the things that people make with computer imaging programs, I find more respect for the artists that stay true to the interaction between the artist and their physical work. Granted, I find digital art beautiful, but there is something about it that seems off, as if there is not as much heart in it. There are no shortcuts or undos with traditional art. And that is beautiful.

I am also inspired by Aerorwen, who creates characters that feel more human than actual people I know. Her art is beautiful and her influence is what has been making me stall, since I could never compete with her perfect understanding of human anatomy. You'll understand what I mean when you see how awful my human representations are, and will understand why I am scared of her and in awe of her.

This nuzlocke will be completed in a combination of watercolors, pencils (graphite and prismacolor), and charcoal and conte. Dialogue and sound effects, page numbers, titles, etc. will be added afterwards using photoshop and indesign. (I truly apologize for the crappy use of typography on this; I was getting very tired and antsy about uploading this and rushed it when my computer started slowing down.) <-- I'll definitely make the typography much more clean and presentable within the next couple weeks!

And so, it has begun. Do you have any predictions? -3- who is the protagonist? Which starter will they choose? Whats with the third degree burns? And also

WHAT MEGA STONE IS THAT

NOTE: I will be uploading all of my nuzlocke comic related artwork on my other account CallMeCricket because it is a newer, cleaner account and I don't want you guys stumbling upon my old, crappy art, lol. The cover is uploaded over on that account as well now.

Stay nerdy, guys!

It always makes me glad to see people pick up traditional media for comics! Personally I am a bit biased towards traditional but in general whatever works with each artist is a good choice. I'm glad to hear I've been an inspiration to you. :>
I checked out some of your watercolour work and it looks really nice. I think you'll make a great comic and a journey with the media you chose. Best of luck!
